The long awaited dream for Duncan Stanley, founder of Brum Yum Yum and Birmingham’s first permanent street food venue has finally begun!
After many years in planning and having secured one of the best city centre locations going, Birmingham’s new Hawker Yard is now open for business!
We headed over last week for the soft launch party with some exceptional quality street food traders in attendance.
Modelling his new venture on the ‘hawker centres’ in Singapore, the Hawker Yard development utilises shipping containers joined together to create an indoor / outdoor street food centre on Pershore Street, next to the Arcadian and adjacent to the Bullring Centre Car Park.
“I’ve wanted to build something like this for a long time and finally in February I managed to seal the deal on the land. Now after 6 more months of blood, sweat, tears and a lot of money, Hawker Yard is here. I always said this would be a game changer for Birmingham and now we’re up and running I’m sure of it.“
The Spice is Right
Street food traders in attendance at the soft launch were Greek food masters – ‘Street Kitchen Brothers’, serving up delicious souvlaki & slaws & spicy meats. ‘The Spice is Right’ – doing what they do best by packing sumptuous flavour and endless passion into every dish they do. Vegan burger makers ‘The Vegan Grindhouse’, so good they can turn you vegan on the spot! ‘Dim Sum Su’, – with her variety of handmade Wonton’s, Dumplings and Steamed Buns with an exciting range of fillings, Sue’s chicken bun is to die for!
Indian Lunchbox Aloo Tikki Burger
‘The Indian Lunchbox’ – Vegetarian Indian street food inspired from the snacks & lunches sold on the street in India, their food, ethos and passion is abundant and oozes quality.
Dim Sum Su
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Hawker Yard, we ate the best street food we’ve tried this year and met some pretty amazing folk – We’ll be back very soon!
